Which Bottom Board should I use in subtropical climate?

As I’m sure you have seen by now that we manufacture a few bottom boards. I will offer a brief description of each in hopes to assist you in selecting the one that best suits your needs. 

Solid Bottom Board: 
The Solid Bottom Board would be your basic standard bottom board and the most inexpensive option. Offers complete coverage under your hive however does not offer ventilation. It’s up to you how you may wish to address adding ventilation in the future if you feel your hive is bearding from heat.

Screened Bottom Board:
The Screened Bottom Board is your second tier on pricing and very popular in a sub- tropical enviroment because it allows air flow underneath the hive. 

Screened Bottom Board with Insert: (IPM aka Integrated Pest Management )
The Screened Bottom Board with the Insert is the top tier as it offers more versatility. While your hive is thriving your insert should be stored. When the insert is removed the bottom board will function just as the traditional screened bottom board offering nice air flow underneath the hive. Now the main purpose for the insert is to check for Varroa Mites. If you suspect that you may have varroa mites you want to slide the insert from behind the hive without disturbing your bees and use one of the methods to test for varroa mites. Another common use for the insert in South Florida is on that rare winter day that the temperature drops you may close off the screen by again sliding the insert in place. If you happen to have caught a swarm or if you split your hive you may slide the insert during these early stages that the population is still low. This warmth when your hive is still in early stages is a better option.

Como estoy seguro de que ya habrás visto, fabricamos algunas fondos inferiores. Ofreceré una breve descripción de cada uno con la esperanza de ayudarlo a seleccionar el que mejor se adapte a sus necesidades.

Fondo inferior sólido:
El tablero de fondo sólido sería su tablero de fondo estándar básico y la opción más económica. Ofrece una cobertura completa debajo de su colmena, sin embargo, no ofrece ventilación. Depende de usted cómo desee abordar la adición de ventilación en el futuro.
Fondo inferior apantallado:
El Tablero inferior con rejilla es su segundo nivel de precios y es muy popular en un ambiente subtropical porque permite el flujo de aire debajo de la colmena.
Fondo  inferior apantallado con inserto: (IPM, también conocido como Manejo integrado de plagas)
El fondo inferior protegido con el inserto es el nivel superior, ya que ofrece más versatilidad. Mientras su colmena prospera, su inserto debe almacenarse. Cuando se quita el inserto, el tablero inferior funcionará como el tablero inferior tradicional que ofrece un buen flujo de aire debajo de la colmena. Ahora, el propósito principal del inserto es verificar si hay Varroa Mites. Si sospecha que puede tener ácaros varroa, deslice el inserto desde detrás de la colmena sin molestar a las abejas y use uno de los métodos para detectar ácaros varroa. Otro uso común para el inserto en el sur de Florida es en ese raro día de invierno en que baja la temperatura, puede cerrar la pantalla deslizando nuevamente el inserto en su lugar. Si ha atrapado un enjambre o si divide su colmena, puede deslizar el inserto durante estas primeras etapas en las que la población aún es baja. Este calor cuando tu colmena aún está en etapas tempranas es una mejor opción.
